Chiaroscuro

In 2019, Saulius joined the early music ensemble Chiaroscuro for a Vilanella program to be performed in the international Marco Scacchi early music festival. Since then the group has presented the program in Lithuania and Latvia.

Ensemble “Chiaroscuro” was found in 2014 in Vilnius. Ieva Baublytė (recorders, gothic harp), Rūta Vosyliūtė (baroque singing) and Vilimas Norkūnas (harpsichord, organ) – every group member has completed the specialized Early Music studies in different countries of Europe (Switzerland, Italy and Austria). The name of Ensemble “Chiaroscuro“ is related to chiaroscuro notion in Baroque art. Strong feelings, deep emotions and contrasting moods were transmitted through light and darkness in all forms of Baroque art: from paintings of M. Caravaggio, dramas of P. Metastasio up to recitar cantare style of G. Caccini, C. Monteverdi.

“Chiaroscuro” appeared with concert program “J. S. and C. Ph. Bach” to commemorate Carl Philips jubilee, theatralised performance “Affetti musicale” including acting and additional dancers, "Rosa das Rosas" – from Medieval songs to Baroque arias, “Augelletti, ruscelleti” for international “Banchetto musicale” festival in Vilnius and Riga Early music festival. They perform as Trio, as Duo and even with Solo pieces reaching variability of stage visual, aural attention and to show different artistry of each of them.

Ensemble “Chiaroscuro” members are well known in performances and teaching, where is a talk about Early music and knowledge of interpretation. Rūta Vosyliūtė is 2018 finishing her Doctorate thesis. All three of them are annually giving master classes in Early music interpretation and performance technics.
